Abstract
Sodexo and Eton College’s annual charity golf event saw players raise £6,200 for Sodexo’s STOP Hunger campaign and local community projects, a record amount since the event started in 2000.
Sodexo has provided catering services at Eton College for 40 years, where the annual charity golf day has become a firm fixture in the calendar raising an impressive total of £42,000 for charity over the past nine years. The night before the event began, 54 players tucked into a six-course gourmet dinner which included seared scallops and samphire, roasted fillet of beef and a 'refined Eton Mess', prepared by Sodexo's catering team at the college and sponsored by some of the company's key suppliers. After dinner, players were given the opportunity to bid at an auction for items donated by companies including Lingfield Park, Marriott Hotels, Major International and Woburn Abbey Golf. The auction saw the diners dig deep to raise more than £3,900 for auction items which included dinner for two at London's County Hall hotel, a stunning break at Cotswold House Hotel and dinner for eight cooked in the winner's own home by Sodexo's head chef at Eton College, Michael Godfrey. After a nine-hole Texas Scramble the next morning, the golfers broke for a lunchtime barbeque courtesy of food manufacturer Major International before the afternoon's 18-hole individual and team competition. The event was won by Stuart Mcleod of Zuidam UK. The raffle for goods, donated by many of Sodexo's suppliers and local contacts, took the total amount raised to £6,200. Ian Mort, Sodexo's general manager at Eton College said: "We have been organising this event for many years and everyone shows the same level of enthusiasm every year. As soon as we finish, they want to know the dates for next year. It's a great opportunity for people in the local community to get together and raise some money for good causes; it's the 10th anniversary next year which will take some planning."
