The campaign is targeting 10 million people around the world to give up meat for one on Monday 15th June to raise awareness of food security issues linked to the world’s ever growing population.
The campaign also highlights how reducing meat consumption can have a huge impact on people’s diets in terms of saturated fat, calorie intake and fibre content.
If 10 million people pledge to take part then 885 million calories will be saved as well as 48 tonnes of saturated fat.
Tony Davison, commercial manager foodservice, Quorn Foods, said: “We’re proud to support this fantastic initiative.
“For a small commitment – to give up meat for just one day – the benefits are huge.
“We’re encouraging operators to get behind this initiative and sign up to support World Meat Free Day and show their customers how easy it is to create great tasting, meat free meals.”
