Public sector caterers encouraged to enter Brakes' Great British Recipe Challenge
Abstract
Foodservice wholesaler Brakes has created the Great British Recipe Challenge to celebrate British Food Fortnight (20th September-6th October 2024), seasonal ingredients and great cooking.

All entries submitted must be original and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other competition. The judges will take into account the following:

  • Good use of British ingredients
  • Good use of seasonal ingredients
  • How easy the recipe is to make
  • How adaptable the dish is across different business types (eg pub, café, education, healthcare etc)

Cathy Amos, head of customer marketing at Brakes, commented: “We are looking for some innovative recipes to feature in our 2024 Brakes British Food Recipe Book, simply create a tasty dish using British ingredients, fill in the entry form and we will choose six winners.

“The six winners recipes will feature in our online recipe book and will win £50 each awarded as Brakes credit. We will choose an overall winner who’s dish will be showcased at our Foodie Expo in Hertfordshire in September as we celebrate British Food Fortnight.”

The Food Expo will take place on 25th September, near Welwyn in Hertfordshire. With more than 70 stands putting the spotlight on the Best of British, the event will showcase British Food Fortnight brunch ideas, as well as chef demonstrations from Fresh Direct showcasing how to maximise British produce on the menu.

British Food Fortnight celebrates the best of British cuisine across the public sector in schools, hospitals, care homes and universities. The campaign also encourages people to seek out British food and drink when they are shopping or eating out.

The deadline for the Great British Recipe Challenge is Tuesday 27th August 2024. For more information about the competition and to enter, visit here.
