Pritchitts launches competition for World School Milk Day

4th Aug 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Pritchitts has launched its 2009 “My Viva” milk competition, following last year's successful contest which saw Owain Parry, from Wrexham-based Cefn Mawr School, win sports equipment by drawing an imaginative poster about milk.
This year, Pritchitts wants to encourage schools to participate in conjunction with World School Milk Day, which was first celebrated in 2000. An annual event, World School Milk Day is held on the last Wednesday every September (30th for 2009) and celebrated by over 40 countries worldwide. Established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the day provides an opportunity for the international community to focus on the importance of milk in schools. Simon Muschamp, head of marketing at Pritchitts said: "Milk has played an essential part of our diets for thousands of years, yet today we struggle to get children to appreciate the benefits of dairy food. We want to encourage the natural creativity that all children have, whilst raising their awareness of the goodness in milk, in line with the objectives of World School Milk Day." Children in two age categories can enter the "My Viva Competition" by designing their own pack for their favourite Viva milk drink. Nine independently judged winners will share in £2,000 worth of sports equipment for their schools; £400 for the winner, along with 8 runners-up (4 in each age range) who will each receive £200 worth.
