Abstract
Billed as an ‘Evening with the Black Cats’, Premier League football club Sunderland AFC drew a crowd of 350 business people from across the north east to its Stadium of Light ground for an evening of networking and international cuisine.

SAFC, through its event catering arm 1879 Event Management and supply partner Bidvest 3663, offered a range of bowl dishes, with a stand offering deli-style food and others offering cakes and desserts.

Stalls were set up in the club’s Montgomery suite with food offerings including Asian, Chinese, Indian, Italian and a range of seafood along with English favourites such as pies, sandwiches and hot dogs.

The event was attended by Sunderland head coach Guy Poyet and a number of first team players, including Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson, who took part in a Ready, Steady, Cook style cookery challenge.

North east five star hotel Seaham Hall gave guests mini massages and attendees were also offered the opportunity to take part in a quiz with a range of top prizes including two VIP tickets for The Open golf next year.

“This was an entirely new way to showcase what we have to offer at the Stadium of Light and to give people the opportunity to network,” said Gary Hutchinson, commercial director at SAFC.

“Attracting more than 300 people to a networking event at any time is a challenge but do to do that in August when so many people are on holiday was amazing.

“The feedback has been astonishing and we’re also very grateful to our partner, Bidvest 3663, for their amazing support.”
