Meat pie was revealed as the second favourite, followed by cheeseburger, hamburger and sandwiches.
Manchester United fans are the biggest fish and chip eaters in the league (while their team deals with small fry on the pitch*), with an estimated 16,813 portions sold at every home game according to the research. West Ham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Sunderland made up the rest of the top five.
Lager is chosen by 21% of fans, but non-alcoholic options such as soft drinks (15%), coffee (14%), tea (13%) all coming ahead of ale (10%).
Only Bournemouth, Southampton, Hull, Leicester and Manchester City fans don’t cite lager as their favourite thirst quencher.
Leon Walters, CEO of EveryFan, said: “Our EveryFan research shows that the British fishing industry can rest easy, because every weekend there’s an army of football fans with their vinegar at the ready for a pre-match chippy. The breweries will be pleased too with more than 1 in 5 fans washing it down with lager. Who’d have thought that coffee would come second, though?”
