Kicking off later this month, McDougalls will be on the lookout across the nation for a team of young bakers to crown as champions in the grand finale taking place at LACA - The Main Event on Thursday, July 9th.
Sarah Gray, marketing manager at Premier Foods, said: “We are excited to launch this competition exclusively for the education sector. We see this as an opportunity to help improve children’s cooking skills.
“As a trusted brand celebrating 150 years of best in class baking, the McDougalls sweet and savoury flour based mixes are ideal to help school caterers provide a varied menu throughout the year. We look forward to receiving entries and seeing what each team has been inspired to create for us.”
Using McDougalls Flour or a product from its Flour Based Mix Range, school caterers are tasked with putting together a small team of up to three seven to 11 year olds and leading them to victory by developing two recipes for the panel of judges.
Teams must register their interest via the Premier Foods website before receiving their McDougalls Toolkit which includes product samples, application forms and recipe inspiration to get them started.
To make it to the live final, teams must create one sweet and one savoury recipe, meeting the ‘birthday party’ theme, and submit them by Friday, 1st May 2015. The recipes will be judged by a panel of judges including representatives from LACA, the Craft Guild of Chefs and Premier Foods. Once all entries are received five teams will be picked to compete in a live cook-off at LACA – The Main Event.
The winning team will be rewarded with top prizes for their school worth £1,000, and the shortlisted recipes they create will be made available for all to download from the Premier Foods website. Chefs and caterers who download the final recipe booklet will be encouraged to make a donation to children’s charity, Kids Company, which McDougalls partnered with in 2014.
Each pack of McDougalls purchased also helps towards Premier Foods’ donation to Kids Company. The company is donating its McDougalls savoury mixes to the charity’s centres across the UK and it will help them serve 13,000 meals to hungry and vulnerable children every month.
If you are looking for a challenge that demonstrates dedication and team work whilst teaching the children new skills, then register your interest at www.premierfoodservice.co.uk by Friday 27th February 2015.
