The donated fridge will be used as a community fridge to help support people in poverty whilst reducing food waste.
FareShare estimates that 1.9 million tonnes of food is wasted by the food industry every year (with 250,000 tonnes still being edible).
Lucy Parish, general manager of The Feed, said: “It’s donations like this that make a huge difference to the services we provide to our clients. We are delighted that we can have our very own first community fridge to benefit everyone.”
The Feed Foundation provides work experience opportunities in their café to people who are facing barriers to employment.
Christine Hartshorne, marketing manager at precision refrigeration, added: “Like many other manufacturers Precision had a number of ‘nearly new’ products that were in perfectly good order, but couldn’t be sold as new, and needed a home.
“The Feed is a great social enterprise that can really change so many people’s lives. Supporting charities like The Feed is important to Precision and the wider community we all live in. So far, Precision has donated around £40k worth of products to good causes over the last three months as part of this promotional campaign.
“We look forward to hearing many more great life stories from our friends at The Feed, and hope that this fridge donation helps the team in this quest. Many thanks again to R&P Distribution for delivering this unit free of charge.”
