According to a new YouGov survey over a quarter (26%) of UK adults now rank bread sandwiches as their most boring lunch option, while 16% are actively seeking hot alternatives like toasties or quesadillas for their ideal weekday lunch.
The poll found 33% of women listed sandwiches are boring while 28% of men found salads to be equally as uninspiring. Scotland and the North of England showed the strongest preference for hot sandwich options.
According to the survey commissioned by Tortilla, the 45-54 age group is most ready for a lunch revolution with 31% fed up with their daily sandwich.
Taking the toasted revolution to the streets, Tortilla is deploying the Quesadilla 5000 – a custom-built machine that transforms boring sandwiches into hot, melty quesadillas. The pop-up will make its debut at Tortilla Greenwich (Opposite Cutty Sark Station) on Thursday 12th December between 11am-2pm.
Megan Burton-Brown, marketing director at Tortilla, said: "Think of our quesadillas as Mexican toasties – they transform the humble sandwich into something actually delicious: less bread, more filling, including; melted cheese, fresh customisable ingredients, and a sauce for dipping – satisfaction you just can't get from a regular sarnie.”
