Abstract
Global snacking company Pladis in collaboration with Nutrition & Hydration Week has smashed the record for the UK’s biggest virtual afternoon tea party.

As part of Nutrition and Hydration Week (14-20 June) the duo simultaneously ran 1,634 individual tea parties at various UK care homes and healthcare centres. Residents and patients across the country hosted a tea party for a chance to be one of the ten winners of a biscuit hamper.

Scott Snell, vice president sales, UK & Ireland, Pladis, said: “We are blown away by the number of people who got involved with our afternoon tea challenge.

“The care and time both residents, activities coordinators and carers have put into the events has been inspiring and we have enjoyed seeing the hundreds of photos of everyone savouring a cup of tea and a biscuit.”

N&H Week aims to raise awareness of the importance of good nutrition and hydration in care homes as well as hospitals.

Andy Jones, chair of the PSC100 group, added: “We set out to raise awareness of the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing in health and social care and over the years, our afternoon tea event has proved very popular.

“We are thrilled to see the biggest ever turn out this year and we hope everyone involved has enjoyed being part of this momentous occasion.”
