Abstract
Peyton and Byrne will add the United Kingdom's national library, the British Library, to its growing portfolio of museum and gallery restaurants and cafés, taking over the catering for its facilities in London and Boston Spa in Yorkshire.
From 1st April 2009, Peyton and Byrne will manage the public catering including the upper ground floor café, first floor restaurant and terrace, a grab and go outlet on the Piazza and a take-out coffee bar.
In addition, Peyton and Byrne will be responsible for all conference and banqueting at the British Library through their events arm, Peyton Events as well as the provision for the library's 2,000 employees, working in London and at Boston Spa. Over the coming months Peyton and Byrne plan to make a number of changes to the existing outlets including a redesign by Andrew Martin Associates of the lower ground floor café to offer a much wider range of food than currently whilst the restaurant will offer high quality dining at accessible prices, from breakfast through to afternoon tea. A pasta station, hot skillets, a salad bar alongside Peyton & Byrne signature range of British cakes and savouries are just some of the new features at the library. Chairman Oliver Peyton said: "The sheer scale of the British Library is impressive, and the catering operations are equally complex - from grab and go coffee shops to restaurants and staff catering. It's a real opportunity and we're up for it." David Read, Head of Customer Service at the British Library said: "Peyton and Byrne's impressive record at some of London's greatest galleries along with their real passion for and commitment to providing high standards of food and service made them the obvious choice." Peyton and Byrne takes over the contract from Leith's who provided the British Library's catering services at St Pancras and Avenance who provided similar services at Boston Spa.
