Abstract
A hot meal service that helps almost 150 people across Pembrokeshire will come to an end this autumn.

The Royal Voluntary Service’s meals on wheels programme delivers meals to frail or disabled people who are unable to cook for themselves and lack support, as well as providing vital social contact.

Sam Ward, director of commissioned services for Royal Voluntary Service said: “We are in the process of discussing the future of the meals on wheels service delivered by Royal Voluntary Service in Pembrokeshire with the county council.

“The service in its current guise will continue until October 2018, after which we are hoping to introduce a new model that will enable the charity to spend more time with the meal recipients.”

The changes are also expected to hit other councils across the UK, according to the Tivyside Advertiser, which also reported that, according to a study by the Association for Public Service Excellence in 2016, fewer than half of Welsh councils were still providing a meals on wheels service.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said letters are being sent to service users informing them that they will be contacted over the next few months in order to discuss their future requirements.
