The university believes Pelican can support its procurement and catering teams by ‘delivering better prices and quality’, and in developing supplier and customer relationships.
Shabaz Mohammed, managing director at Pelican, said: “We are delighted to partner with Leeds Beckett University. Our team are very excited to be part of the university’s ambition to improve profitability and provide innovative solutions to cater for the student market.”
Leeds Beckett has 26,000 students at its campuses and around 2,400 members of staff. Its facilities include two food courts across two sites.
In addition to the food courts, the university manages and operates four retail outlets, three coffee shops, a new conference centre and provides internal and external hospitality food services for staff and visitors. The university’s current spend is over £1.8 million.
Lesley Carden, procurement manager at LBU said: “We awarded the contract to Pelican as they demonstrated their expertise and depth of knowledge of the food industry, and EU procurement and supply chain management.
“We felt that they would be the best partner to help us improve our operation and support us in expanding and improving our offering.”
