Palace of Westminster employs six people with Down’s Syndrome
Abstract
Six new employees are working in the Palace of Westminster as part of The Down Syndrome’s Association’s ‘pioneering’ WorkFit programme that aims to get people with the condition into employment.

WorkFit listens to the business needs of employers and matches them to the hopes and ambitions of jobseekers, supporting them to be more independent, learn new skills, meet new people, earn money and increase their self-esteem.

Amy, who works as a catering assistant appeared on Good Morning Britain, to share her experience of working at the Palace of Westminster.

She said: “I love it. I really enjoy greeting people and serving people their food and drink. I enjoy the work and the team are very nice. My favourite part is I like doing the till and serving customers. I love to serve Sir Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak, David Cameron and Sadiq Khan.”

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of trade body UKHopsitality, added: "A reminder of the opportunities for all offered by the hospitality sector - been pleased to champion employment and inclusion for those with neurodiversity and learning disabilities in my role as Disability Ambassador."
