Abstract
Nominations for the UK Asian and Oriental Chef of the Year, organised by the Asian Curry Federation (ACF), have opened.

The winner will be awarded at a ceremony in the Terrace Pavilion at the House of Commons on May 15th, which will also see the launch of the Asian Curry Awards 2017.

Chefs will be assessed on creativity, technical skills, nutrition and hygiene ratings and the twenty finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony at Terrace Pavilion.

The ACF has also announced dates of two roadshows, one in Belfast on April 24th and a Just Eat road show at the Birmingham Conference Events Centre (BCEC) on May 8th, designed to support the 35,000 Asian and Oriental restaurants and takeaways in the UK.

Yawar Khan, the chairman of the Asian Catering Federation (ACF), has predicted that 50% of curry houses in the UK will close in the next decade due to failure of curry houses to create healthier dishes and unwillingness to invest in marketing and branding.

Kahn said: “We need to stop blaming the government, rise to the challenge, and to take responsibility for the survival of our own businesses.

“For years we have been telling restaurants they need to up their game with shorter menus, offering lighter healthier options with more fish and vegetable dishes, with genuinely authentic regional food.”

The Asian Curry Awards will take place at Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair on November 12th 2017.
