Abstract
Some NHS trusts are banning disposable cups and are bringing back china crockery on wards to tackle waste, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Findings from a Press Association FOI request reveal the NHS have purchased 609,830,335 disposable cups since 2013, according to the Daily Telegraph, which reported that one London trust, Guy's and St Thomas', purchased almost 30 million cups over the period.

A spokesperson from Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that it is replacing single-use disposable items with china cups and glassware.

Charity Greenpeace UK said the figures demonstrate "just how out of control our relationship with single-use plastic has become".

Louise Edge, senior oceans campaigner at Greenpeace UK, said: "We all know we're using far too much throwaway plastic, but these huge figures demonstrate just how out of control our relationship with single-use plastic has become."
