NHS Supply Chain creates 75th anniversary cookbook
Abstract
As part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the NHS, the NHS Supply Chain: food team has been working on a cookbook that features a collection of recipes from the very first NHS menus.

The recipes have been recreated so kitchens can celebrate with a range of dishes that reflect the era and have stood the test of time to still be popular today.

Nick Vadis, chef ambassador to the NHS Supply Chain, said: "This collection of dishes were inspired by menus from 1948… These are great classical dishes that evoke memories and a feeling of home which can be a great comfort to a patient in a hospital."

Phil Shelley, chair of the NHS Food Review, added: "This book celebrates those dishes that have stood the 'test of time' throughout the 75 years of the NHS. Traditional dishes still have a vital part to play alongside the dishes that have been innovated in recent years.”

NHS Supply Chain has developed the Chef’s Academy programme, which invites hospital chefs to take part in free training, watch live demonstrations and the opportunity to network with their peers. It recently hosted events in Norwich and West London.
