Abstract
A new outdoor catering kiosk that provides hot and cold food and drinks at Willingdon Community School in Eastbourne, East Sussex, has recently opened its doors to students.
The kiosk features "state-of-the-art" equipment to provide nutritionally balanced snacks for pupils on the go.
It will be open during mid morning breaks and lunch times and will sell a wide variety of well-balanced and nutritious snacks. Menu choices include hot pasta in sauce, fresh pizza, jacket potatoes and salads, alongside fruit-based drinks.
David Elkin, the council's lead member for schools and learning effectiveness, said: "This new kiosk gives students a choice of eating locations and also gives them the chance to get some fresh air at break time. It will offer a way of purchasing food and drink quickly and on the go."
Students at the school have been involved with the introduction of the new kiosk from the start, taking part in a competition to choose its name and design.
The system works by parents 'topping up' their children's accounts with credit, with all of their meals and snacks at the school then deducted from this at the till point.
The new facility is one of many projects the East Sussex County Council has introduced to improve the school meals service in the county.
