New catering contract for Eden Foodservice

23rd Feb 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Torbay Council has awarded a three year contract worth £900,000 per year to Eden Foodservice for the provision of school catering services.
Starting from April, Eden will provide school meals at 23 primary and special schools in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. The contract, awarded after a competitive tender process, will provide meals throughout the day including breakfast, mid-morning break and lunch. Eden will prepare all food on-site using best quality ingredients – including greater levels of fruit and vegetables – and develop a range of food that encourages healthy eating. Around 60 members from the existing catering service will move to Eden Foodservice under TUPE regulations, ensuring appropriate legislative compliance and employee protection. This will also support the efficient transfer of the contract to Eden Foodservice and ensure continuity at each school. Cabinet member for children's services Cllr Anna Tolchard said: "The school catering service is vital to the development of the children's health, good dietary practice and healthy life choices and the offer from Eden Foodservice, combined with their proven track record represents the best possible services for those schools involved in terms of quality and value for money." Simon James, managing director of Eden Foodservice, added: "Our priority is to provide high quality catering solutions to schools using fresh and local ingredients, whilst engaging with all stakeholders including pupils, teachers, parents and employees to promote healthy eating and boost uptake of school meals."
