New café opens with nutrition on menu

6th Jan 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
A new café has just opened its doors in Blackbird Leys, Oxfordshire, to tackle the issues around obesity and healthy eating.
Café Crème, which is run by local entrepreneur Mehdi Karrouchi, is part of the Well Being Hub and is funded by Sport England. The aim of the venue is to tackle issues around obesity and healthy eating in Blackbird Leys and the surrounding area, by increasing participation in leisure and recreational facilities at the Well Being Hub. It is envisaged that local schools and elderly day care centres will use the space to encourage healthier lifestyles amongst these groups. The project will also embrace local training needs in areas such as business skills, and sports development. Councillor Bob Timbs, board member for leisure and sport, commented on the new establishment: "We hope that by opening the café at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, we can encourage more people to come along to the Leisure Centre and use the gym facilities or take part in the sports on offer. "The café is open to all and is a great opportunity for local people to drop in to have a coffee and something to eat while chatting with friends." The eatery officially opened yesterday (5 January).
