Meals on Wheels Week (31st October to 4th November) aims to celebrate services that play a vital role in supporting older and vulnerable people to receive a nutritious meal. The NACC are calling upon the whole care and hospitality sector and the supply chain to show some strong support with this year’s activities.
The Meals on Wheels Week webinar will feature:
- Canada's Meals on Wheels service: is made and distributed through its care homes
- Australia's Meals on Wheels service: is made and distributed through their hospitals
- UK’s Meals on Wheels service: Sarah Wren will talk about the social enterprise model in the UK
Sarah Wren is chief executive of Hertfordshire Independent Living Service, a not-for-profit social enterprise that delivers a range of services to older and vulnerable people to help them stay happy, healthy, and independent in their homes for as long as possible. These services range from meals on wheels, to specialist exercise provision and nutrition support, and are delivered to 15,000 people annually.
Radia said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has given the nation a real glimpse of the value of Meals on Wheels services and the nutritional and emotional support they provide to the vulnerable living at home in the community. As well as a long-term solution, it is also a short-term answer for those discharged from hospitals who may need temporary support as they convalesce back to good health.”
