National Farmers Union partners with City Harvest
Abstract
The National Farmers Union (NFU) has announced a partnership with City Harvest, designating the food charity as its farm gate waste partner.

Being a farm gate waste partner means that any member in the NFU can ring City Harvest when they have surplus food. This could be produce that they cant sell to retail but is too good to go to an anaerobic digestion plant or an incinerator.

Sarah Calcutt, City Harvest’s chief executive, said: “We have been talking about how important it is to have a thriving British food industry. We have been talking about how important it is that every bit of edible food has a great route to someone who needs it most.

“British grown food is incredibly important for City Harvest because it comes from the highest welfare standards internationally. British farmers really care about the environment so we know the food is produced in a sustainable way. We know the animals are cared for in a very kind and high welfare manner and it’s the best and most nutrient dense food that we could possible source for the people we care for.

A £25 donation to City Harvest could provide three meals a day to a family of four for a week. A £100 donation could keep one of the food delivery vans on the road for an entire day delivering hundreds of meals to vulnerable people.
