National Doughnut Week raises over £20,000 for children’s charity
Abstract
National Doughnut Week, 11-18 May 2019, raised more than £20,000 for The Children’s Trust, a charity for children with brain injuries.

An Independent baker, Christopher Freeman the owner of Dunn’s Bakery, launched National Doughnut Week in 1991 to raise money for charity. Since then it has raised a total of £939,724 for charitable causes, including £392,655 for The Children’s Trust.

This year 140 bakers, coffee shops and businesses took part in the fundraising week, including The Cavan Bakery, Truffles Bakery, Warings Bakery, Planet Doughnut and Bayne’s Family Bakers.

Helen Sinclair from CSM Bakery Solutions, the sponsors of National Doughnut Week, said: “We’ve had another great week of fundraising and have seen some amazing doughnuts; everything from Eurovision-themed to Lambrini doughnuts, to a range of Roald Dahl specials. The week is an amazing opportunity for bakers to showcase their creativity and raise lots of dough!”

Birds Bakery has participated in the national event for many years and this year they raised £10,000 for The Children’s Trust. The East Midlands bakery chain sold their salted caramel doughnut and their new doughnut bites to raise money for The Children’s Trust.

Mike Holling from Birds Bakery added: “We’re thrilled to announce that yet again we have raised over £10,000 for National Doughnut Week! It’s one of our favourite events of the year – our customers and staff love getting involved and this year’s doughnuts went down a treat.”
