NACC celebrates unsung care catering heroes at awards ceremony
Abstract
The National Association of Care Catering (NACC) celebrated outstanding contributions to the care catering sector at the NACC Awards 2019.

The NACC Awards aim to recognise teams and individuals from across the care sector that demonstrate ‘innovation, excellence and dedication’ in their field. The awards were announced at the gala awards dinner at the East Midlands Conference Centre, which was attended by colleagues, partners and guests.

Neel Radia, outgoing national chair of the NACC, commented: “Congratulations to the NACC Awards 2019 winners. They are all fine examples of the exceptional talent, dedication and innovation that the care catering sector produces.

“It’s an absolute privilege to honour the hard work and vision of care catering professionals up and down the country. They really are unsung heroes. Their incredible work helps ensure individuals in a care environment receive the quality care they deserve.

“The awards have always been a personal highlight and celebrating our inspirational and deserved winners was a wonderful way to end my six-year tenure as NACC Chairman.”

Ferndown Manor won the Care Establishment of the Year Award for their menus, which created an ‘unhurried restaurant-quality dining experience.’

County Enterprise Foods Nottinghamshire County Council were awarded the Meal on Wheels Award. As well as delivering nutritious meals it provides valuable community support to protect the vulnerable from scams. The judges praised the service, saying: “It’s very clear this multi-award winning enterprise never rests on its laurels.”

The Catering Team of the Year Award was given to the Soil Association and Adriano Carvalho, head chef at Gracewell of Newbury, won the catering Manager of the Year Award. The North region won the title of Region of the Year for the second year running.

Ivan Nobrega, service driver at Apetito won Our Care Catering Hero Award for an ‘outstanding act of bravery.’  He discovered a fire at a client’s home and alerted the emergency services and helped the husband and wife escape the property safely.

Berenice Pretlove won the Pam Rhodes Outstanding Achievement Award. This award recognises the work and commitment an individual has made to the NACC. Over the last seven years she has supported the NACC by establishing key relationships and representing the association at major events.

The Chairman’s Award 2019 went to Adam Michallat-Cox for volunteering his time to help the growth of the association. Michallat-Cox has held regional and national positions as South West secretary, South West chair and national deputy chair.
