Abstract
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) UK annual awards celebrated sustainable dining in a virtual live-streamed ceremony from the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.

The MSC UK University of the Year award was given to Durham University and the MSC UK Foodservice Wholesaler of the Year award was given to Brakes and M&J. The award winners received a ‘striking award’ depicting a sea full of schooling fish.

Stickleback Fish Company won the Fresh Fish Foodservice Supplier of the Year award after being nominated by their restaurant customers. Ross Arnold, managing director of Stickleback, said: “We have been an independent regional seafood supplier since 2005 and have held the MSC chain of Custody since 2015.

“To be awarded the Fresh Foodservice Supplier of the Year is testament to the work and innovation of the Stickleback team. In the past year we have been the first to market in the UK for MSC Icelandic monkfish and redfish, which has been hugely successful for our customers.

“We are the first independent winner of this award which means a huge amount to the team and we will continue to champion MSC and sustainability.”

Pete Fraser, owner of Harbour Lights and Fraser’s Fish and Chips in Cornwall was named Foodservice Champion of the Year for demonstrating ‘exceptional leadership and championing sustainability’.

Due to Covid-19 the awards were virtually streamed on 30 September 2020. Guest speakers included MSC ambassador and restaurateur Mitch Tonks, Peter Buckland from the MSC Cornish sardine fishery and Tommy Russell from the Poole Harbour Clam & Cockle Fishery.

Lussmans Sustainable Fish & Grill was awarded the Menu of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
