Abstract
Foodservice company Mount Charles has partnered with Belfast-based charity, The Welcome Organisation, to distribute surplus food from its new Freshly Chopped flagship outlet, which opened this month.

Located in Donegall Square West (Belfast), healthy fast food chain Freshly Chopped offers a selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps to take away or eat in.

The new partnership will see Mount Charles donate all unused food to homeless people across the city each night, via The Welcome Organisation.

Head of sales and marketing at Mount Charles, Gavin Annon, commented: “As a foodservice company operating across the UK & Ireland, (Mount Charles) feels a big responsibility to minimise food waste wherever possible.

“This new commitment with The Welcome Centre means that no good quality, fresh produce from Freshly Chopped that could be eaten will go to waste.

“We know that homelessness in Belfast is a serious issue and we’re glad to play a small part in helping feed people in real need.”

Chief executive of The Welcome Organisation, Sandra Moore, added: “We would like to thank everyone at Freshly Chopped and Mount Charles for their support.

“By donating food, Freshly Chopped will help us feed some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. The food will be used in our drop-in centre, where we provide meals, tea and coffee to up to 100 people every day.”
