26th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
M&J Seafood has won the Sustainable Future Award at the prestigious Seafood Awards 2009 announced at a gala awards ceremony on London’s Park Lane.
The competitive category of Sustainable Future award attracted some exemplary entries from a range of leading companies and were judged on initiatives or methods that demonstrated a real concern for the environment and the sustainable harvesting of seafood. Announcing M&J Seafood as the ultimate winners the judges praised M&J Seafood for tackling the challenges of responsibly sourcing seafood, which is demonstrated not only by its business actions but also through their collaborative engagement at a wider level. The judges were particularly impressed by M&J's fundamental commitment to sustainability, demonstrated by four of their initiatives: their Cornish albacore tuna, the British Skippers Scheme, their support of MSC certified products and their commitment to champion alternative and under-utilised species. Mike Berthet, director of fish and seafood at M&J Seafood said: "Winning the Sustainable Future award is a fantastic achievement especially in view of the exceptionally high calibre of entries the category attracted. This award acknowledges the tireless work and dedication the team at M&J puts into ensuring that we offer the most comprehensive range of sustainable fish and seafood to the foodservice sector. This award underlines our commitment to working towards delivering a viable and sustainable future for the seafood industry whilst ensuring we offer the very best quality products in a responsible way to our customers."
