Abstract
Jill Whittaker, managing director of HIT Training, has suggested that apprenticeships can help address the skills shortage in the hospitality sector.

Whittaker believes apprenticeships can ‘future-proof’ the hospitality workforce following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit.

She commented: "Following what has been an unpredictable and hugely disruptive year for the hospitality sector, it's now more important than ever before to future-proof our businesses.

“With lockdown restrictions lifting across the UK and demand increasing, restaurants, pubs and hotels should be look to apprenticeships at every level, to combat staff shortages across the board.

"Not only are apprenticeships cost effective, but by investing in professional development, businesses can create a more loyal and engaged workforce. And following the Government's plans to double incentive grants on offer to employers, there's never been a better time to invest in upskilling the hospitality industry.

HIT Training is an apprenticeship and training provider for the UK hospitality and catering industries. HIT Training know ‘the positive impact of work-based apprenticeships’ for employers, employees and the wider economy.

Whittaker added: Despite what many people may think, apprenticeships range from entry to degree-level, allowing people to gain a broad spectrum of skills and experience to benefit employers, whether they are just starting out or further on in their careers.

"By offering invaluable real-world experience, earning potential and career progression, apprenticeships have the potential to shape the future development of the hospitality industry, but it's up to employers to invest in that future."
