The McCain Foodservice Solutions Streets Ahead programme, which is supported by social enterprise KERB+, is dedicated to investing back by supporting a new generation of operators from less advantaged backgrounds.
Twelve ambitious participants were selected in June to receive investment from a £100,000 pot McCain FS to help these new business ideas succeed in the street food industry. Nine of them will be at Gipsy Hill Taproom in London on Saturday 23rd September.
The event is ticketed at £10 plus booking fee for two portions so no one is stuck for choice and Gipsy Hill are throwing in a free KERB lager. All proceeds will go to our dedicated new independent operators. On the menu:
- Syrian falafel and hummus from Amany at Abo Saleem
- Layered lamb palav from Akbar and Sanobar at Samarkand Palav
- Fragrant Syrian toasties from Bahaa at Sojok
- Mosakhan chicken wraps from Hind at Utopia
- Juicy fried chicken and jollof rice from Kemi at Kemi’s Kitchen
- Bite-sized Turkmenistan manti dumplings from Maral at Ayal
- Brown stew chicken with rice and peas from Ozayr at Jamaikorean
- Italian focaccia sandwiches meet jerk chicken from Simeon at Jerk N Fusion
- Flavour-packed curries with roti and sambal from Yogi at Yogi’s Sri Lankan Kitchen
Mark Hodge, McCain Foods marketing vice president, said: “We're delighted to be able to support our first Streets Ahead cohort of successful hospitality entrepreneurs by creating an opportunity for them to trade at a bustling street food market.
“This gives participants hands-on experience in the food service industry, a chance to refine their new skills and is a celebration of the launch of their own street food businesses. We look forward to sharing this spectacular showcase of food and encourage others in the industry to come along and support them at the event.”
