Abstract
McCain Foodservice has won one of the IGD Food Industry Awards, for its Purely Potato range.
The Nestle Wellness Award was given to McCain to recognise how Purely Potato helps caterers provide healthy and nutritious meals. The range is prepared using water blanching rather than oil presenting caterers with an unrestricted starchy carbohydrate in line with current food based standards. McCain Purely Potato won the award against tough competition from Sainsbury's, The Co-Operative Food and Compass Group. McCain was commended for identifying a problem and finding a solution for the challenging school food environment. The range is already being used in over 1,000 schools across the UK, and is listed with more than 25 Local Authorities. Adrian Greaves, McCain Foodservice Associate Director said: "The Foodservice team is very proud to have won this award, as it is real recognition of our efforts within the school catering sector. We have embarked on a mission to remind foodservice customers about the companywide It's All Good philosophy and that all our food is made from simple, natural ingredients prepared with care. "No other range embodies this philosophy better than Purely Potato, which has overcome major manufacturing challenges to provide real solutions for school caterers across the country. We believe it is our job to drive the category forward and are pleased that the Nestle Wellness Awards recognises this."
