Mark Holmes wins North West round of SCOTY 2013

Abraham Guest Academy school chef Mark Holmes has won the North West regional final of LACA’s 2013 School Chef of the Year Competition, which is sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional.

Holmes, who works for Metrofresh on behalf of Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, won the regional final at Manchester College on March 15th with a main course of Wigan Pie, (crisp potato-topped meat and potato pie served with three vegetables, cooked in three ways) and a dessert of Pemberton Pud (a chocolate risotto, Cheerio crisp, strawberry and banana yoghurt creams).

The Highly Commended main course went to Debbie Sidlow, who works at Moston Fields Primary School for Manchester Fayre on behalf of Manchester City Council. Her dish was Wythenshaw Beef Pie with Mash and Peas (Wythenshaw beef pie with twice-baked Lancashire cheese soufflé, champ, floral carrots and Manchester caviar).

Lark Hill Primary School chef Emma Atkinson was awarded the Highly Commended dessert prize for her Sweet Potato Tart (sweet potato blended with spices, served with a honey drizzle). She works for Solutions SK on behalf of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.

The final will take place on May 22nd at Food Services Wing, Defence Logistics School, Worthy Down near Winchester, Hampshire.

The line-up of 10 finalists are the winners of regional rounds and will represent England, Wales and Scotland.
