Abstract
Charity Magic Breakfast set up a petition calling on the UK Government to introduce free breakfasts to ensure the four million children at risk of going to school hungry are fed.
The petition, which can be found here, currently has over 4,000 signatures. According to research children who regularly miss breakfast achieve on average two grades lower at GCSE.
A spokesperson for Magic Breakfast said: “Breakfast is more than just a bowl of cereal. It’s fuel for children’s futures. But every morning a child turns up to school hungry, that future gets jeopardised. They’re unable to concentrate and they’re unable to learn.
“The cost of living crisis means more families are struggling with food insecurity, and breakfast is often the first meal to go. But the Government just isn't doing enough to help provide this vital meal to children who need it.”
