According to Magic Breakfast as many as four million children in this country are at risk of starting their day without a meal.
A spokesperson for Magic Breakfast said: “School breakfast is a low-cost but high impact means of tackling poverty, beating hunger, reducing the attainment gap and boosting the long-term economy. The rising levels of disadvantage and rocketing numbers of hungry children are an outrage and cannot be ignored.”
The UK’s public health leaders have written a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak outlining three key actions to tackle child food poverty by expanding access to Free School Meals, increasing funding to the National School Breakfast Programme and promoting access to the Healthy Start scheme.
Matt White, chair of the Public Sector Catering Alliance, signed and endorsed the letter on behalf of the public sector catering associations.
