Compostable cups, straws and lids launched by Love Taste Co
Abstract
Compostable cups, straws and lids have been launched by Love Taste Co to help reduce foodservice plastic waste.

The compostables are made from polylactic acid, a compostable plant-based material also known as corn starch, and will fully replace its existing range of recyclable PET plastic disposables at the same price.

Phil Plowman, managing director of Love Taste Co said: “Since the company’s inception, we have always strived to make it as easy as possible for venues to serve and sell our dinks. The new range of PLA cups, lids and straws support operators who are looking to cut down on their own single-use plastic waste. Furthermore, operators can reassure their customers who are increasingly concerned about plastic consumption.

“We have all been made aware of the effect the disposal of plastic is having on our planet and it is great to make this small change to reduce our own plastic footprint and support operators and consumers to do the same.”

Instead of being thrown in with other recyclables, the new range should be disposed of with food waste, whether this is in a commercial compost facility or, if a consumer takes the cup home, via local council food waste collections.

They take less than 180 days to break down and will make things more convenient for operators as there will be no need to remove any food or drink from the packaging at the point of disposal.

The cups are considered perfect for consumers to enjoy on the go as well as in cafes, casual dining environments and gyms, health clubs and spas.

To help educate staff and customers on the compostable disposable and their method of disposal, Love Taste Co can provide POS materials.
