The new Working Group aims to encourage NHS Trusts and care homes to run British Food Fortnight events during the national celebrations later this year as well as showcase British seasonal produce on their menus and start the process of forming new supply chains for the long term with at least three or four British suppliers.
Alexia Robinson, Love British Food founder, commented: “In the short time since it was established in early 2022, Love British Food’s Hospital Working Group is proving hugely powerful in inspiring and enabling catering teams to share knowledge on how to maximise the nutritional and supply chain benefits of British food and encouraging Trusts to take part in British Food Fortnight.
“The co-chairs and I have all agreed that it makes sense to include care caterers in our working group. We are delighted that Sue Cawthray, chair of the NACC, has agreed and that Sophie Murray has agreed to join Iain Robertson and Kushboo Naik as co-chair.
“Sophie has been involved in Love British Food for many years. She is already an ambassador for the campaign and has been instrumental in encouraging hundreds of care homes to take part in British Food Fortnight over the years. We hope to use our group’s reach and influence to give care caterers a platform to share the important role that food plays in the care of the elderly and to inspire care caterers to use nutritious, quality British food on their menus.”
