Lord’s fields heavyweight food supplies for 2016 cricket season
Abstract
With the cricket season now well underway, the headquarters of English cricket at Lord’s is busy preparing more than just Test-standard wickets.

With more than 85,000 mouths to feed during one Test match alone, catering staff have cakes, scones and bacon sandwiches among other things to get ready.

During the five days of a Test match at Lord’s the in-house hospitality team led by executive head chef Tim Harrington will be 850-strong for the occasion and will serve:

· 10,000 afternoon teas

· 50,000 scones and cakes

· 2,500 bacon rolls

· 13,000 lunches for members, debenture holders and hospitality boxes

· 3,500 roast beef rolls

· 15,000 glasses of Champagne

· 21,000 pints of Pimms

Over 3,000 customers per Test match will also be also served hot sandwiches, pork pies and homemade scotch eggs from the newest food outlet at Lord’s, WG’s, which is located right by the action under the Grandstand and named after the English cricketing legend Dr William Gilbert Grace.

Catering for breakfast, lunches and dinners at Lord’s means buying in immense supplies including over a tonne of beef ribs, 400kg of bacon and 482kg of Scottish salmon for each day of a Test match.

Not only that but the caterers serve 50,000 scones and cakes each day.

The ground hosts the third England versus Sri Lanka Test match from June 9-13 and the opening Test against Pakistan from July 14-18.
