Abstract
The London School of Economics (LSE) has introduced a ban on beef across campus following a student vote.

LSE has followed in the footsteps of Goldsmiths University who banned beef on their campus last year.

Phoebe Woodruff, a PETA campus rep, said: “More students than ever are looking to limit their environmental footprint – and cutting out meat, eggs, and dairy is the best and easiest way to do that.

“It’s encouraging to see LSE take a stand to protect animals and the environment. Everyone who wishes to eat with compassion can make the switch to a vegan lifestyle today – it’s never been easier.”

PETA is trying to encourage LSE to replace beef with other vegan options and not just other animal derived foods. According to the Vegetarian Society a record number of people attempted Veganuary during the first month of 2020 and the number of people on a flexitarian diet is also on the rise.

Permitting the sale of beef is still a ‘hotly contested’ debate as students at Edinburgh and East Anglia have successfully opposed plans to bans beef on their campuses.
