Abstract
Lifespan Catering Services will be expanding its supply of hospital meals into Essex and Suffolk after being awarded a contract, valued at around £1 million a year.
Based in Fulbourn Cambridge, Lifespan currently prepares and produces 24,000 portions of hospital food every day.
Known for its 'cook chill' meals, the NHS caterers expect to increase the business by 20% under the new contract to supply a consortium of NHS Trusts in Essex.
This means producing and delivering an additional 750 patient meals in Colchester, Clacton, Chelmsford, Basildon, Maldon, Halstead, Harlow, Epping and Saffron Walden – as well as Ipswich and Felixstowe in Suffolk.
All the food will continue to be freshly prepared on site in Cambridge and delivered to the new locations daily.
Head of catering services Trevor Colcomb said: "We are delighted to announce this new contract and the huge boost for our business. "It is still early days, but so far things seem to be going very smoothly, and we are really pleased to have had the opportunity to expand our service into new NHS locations." Lifespan Catering Services is the catering arm of NHS shared services provider Anglia Support Partnership.
