The challenge is to create a balanced, delicious and nutritious one pot dish using at least one product from the McCain Chef Solutions Simply range. Dishes must be compliant with all applicable school meal requirements, including School Food Plan in England, Healthy Eating in Wales and Better Eating, Better Leaning in Scotland, and cost no more than 80p per portion.
Katrina Ellis, McCain Foods product manager, said: “While the deadline is drawing near, the competition is easy to enter and really rewarding so I’d encourage any cooks who are unsure to take the plunge and get in touch. I guarantee they won’t regret it.”
The competition is now in its third year and is split into two categories for local authority cooks and all other schools. The chosen finalists will present their dishes at a live MasterChef style cook off at luxury Eckington Manor hotel in Worcestershire, where they will receive a complimentary dinner and overnight’s stay, along with their line manager and/or head of service. All finalist recipes will be printed and published on the McCain Foodservice website.
The winners will both receive an all-expenses paid culinary trip for two to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ. The winner of the local authority school cook category will also be invited to LACA to showcase their winning dish.
The closing date for entries is at the end of March.
