Abstract
It’s the last call for chefs who can produce an affordable, veg-loaded, grab ‘n’ go meal appealing to young people within Brighton and Hove before the deadline of 23 October.

95% of teenagers in the UK don’t eat enough veg and for every 3 meals they eat out, they only get half a portion towards their five a day.

Grabbing a healthy meal on the go can be a challenge for students on a budget, made even harder with the temptations of student discounts at less healthy food outlets.

Chefs and aspiring Chefs around Brighton and Hove are being asked to take part in the Veg City Challenge where they will be required to produce a recipe packed full of veg that appeals to the stomachs and wallets of teens and young adults.

If your recipe meets our criteria you will be invited to a cook-off at Brighton Community Kitchen on Wednesday 6 November 2019 to face the following panel of judges:

  • Michael Bremner, 64 Degrees Murmur
  • Nicole Pisani, ex head chef at top London restaurant, Nopi, now School Chef at Gayhurst Primary and Founder of Chefs in Schools
  • Julie Barker, leading national hospitality and catering expert
  • Nutritionist
  • Hungry school children

The winning recipe will be rolled out to schools and colleges around the city to test its teen appeal.
