Food for Life Lancashire will engage the most deprived schools and early years settings to embed a positive food culture that will ultimately help children to eat a more balanced diet. The programme aims to give children better access to healthy food and an understanding of where food comes from.
Libby Shaw, who will be working with schools across the district to embed the programme, said: “I am very excited to be working on the Food for Life programme, making healthy food choices the easy option for everyone.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact for children, families and communities in Lancashire. I look forward to developing this programme over the next two years and seeing it grow and flourish.”
The creation of community hubs, support to increase the uptake of school meals, training for school staff around nutrition and cooking, as well as the development of food leadership will all be part of the programme.
Michael Green, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing, added: "Commissioning Food For Life will support this priority, encouraging children to learn about food and where it comes from, and promoting access to good nutrition from a young age. We believe this is vital to children's development, health and wellbeing and importantly builds the foundations for their future."
