Abstract
French dairy co-operative Laïta has announced it has acquired Marathon Foods Ltd, the London-based Mediterranean specialist food importer.
The acquisition of Marathon secures the supply of halloumi at a time when the UK has seen a growth in the hot-eating cheese trend across foodservice and retail.
Dairy has seen a large growth in demand from UK foodservice customers as well as becoming a top supermarket purchase during lockdown. Kantar data highlighted sales of halloumi and grilling cheese increased 37.8% year-on-year (to December 2020).
The security of supply that the acquisition offers Laïta means it can continue to provide its foodservice, retail and industrial customers with precision cuts slices and halloumi fries.
