LACA has released the details of its submission to the Deepartment for Education on its consultation into ‘revised standards for food in schools’.
Broadly, LACA has said it fully supports the return to food-based standards.
The response notes: “The Expert Panel set up by John (Vincent) and Henry (Dimbleby) to help and assist with the School Food Plan and its sub group of the Standards Panel have worked very hard to provide easy to understand school food based standards.
“However, in our view the Statutory Instruments need some clarification to avoid ambiguity and different interpretations when putting them into practice.
“The ‘Tea Towel’ [by which the standards are summarised on a single sheet] idea is excellent but at present does not exactly mirror the Revised Food Based Standards.
“We trust that you will find this response helpful to ensure that The Revised Food Based Standards will be practical and easy to follow and that the Standards will achieve healthy, nutritionally balanced menus for school catering.
“We sincerely hope that the children, our customers, will enjoy their food and the Standards will encourage more of them to participate in this important provision.”
