LACA chair Anne Bull, the head of school catering and facilities services with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, was awarded a Catey last night as the winner of the Public Sector Caterer Award.
It was given in recognition of her twin achievements in leading 1,700 staff producing 21,000 meals a day in a business turning over £15m a year alongside her national role as LACA chair in which she has represented the organisation on the School Food Plan expert panel and handled the horsemeat scandal.
Within her own authority she has overseen the introduction of a Primary Parent leaflet with a circulation of 25,000, early re-accreditation of Investors in People and the introduction of baguette bars, breakfast clubs and healthy vending services.
Her commitment to improving school meals saw her play a key role on the Food in Schools Working Group, supporting and advising the Welsh Government in the development of the Welsh Nutritional Standards, known as Appetite for Life.
Consultant Vic Laws, on the judging panel, said: “At Rhondda Cynon Taf Anne has done an excellent job, including defending her service from E. coli allegations that were completely unfounded.
“She has also had a busy year in her role as chair of LACA, working with the Leon Review, being a member of the Expert School Food Panel and representing schools during the horsemeat scandal, where she was on TV or radio for most of one weekend.”
