Abstract
National wholesaler JJ Foodservice has encouraged customers to order online to minimise social interaction and reduce cash handling during the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) money can hold onto bacteria and viruses for days so the organisation has recommended washing hands regularly.
Sedat Kaan Hendekli, head of operations at JJ Foodservice, said: "Customer numbers more than doubled over the weekend as supermarket supplies ran dry sending many shoppers our way.
“We are doing everything we can to fulfil orders while promoting the safety of our teams. Ordering and paying online reduces the need to wait around – you can be in and out of a branch much faster, helping to minimise risk."
Cash payments are already on the decline at JJ Foodservice after the wholesaler launched a 'Pay Online' by card promotion in 2019.
