Abstract
National foodservice wholesaler JJ Foodservice has reduced its carbon emissions by 2% after it’s idling was cut by 70%.

The introduction of telematics, a method of monitoring a vehicle, which combines GPS with on-board diagnostics, began in January and within six months the amount of time vehicles were idling was reduced by 55%, or 1449 hours per month.

Last month (August), a record of 70% reduction in idling was achieved.

Head of operations at JJ Foodservice, Sedat Kaan Hendekli, said: “We are proud to say that by choosing to shop at JJ’s, caterers are partnering with a supplier that cares about the future.”

Solar panels now generate 13% of energy across two of JJ’s London depots, while a new eco-packaging range will give caterers access to a wide range of compostable and biodegradable packaging options.

JJ warehouses also operate in a paperless environment following the introduction of digital technology in January.

“Our environmental credentials have never looked better. We look forward to partnering with more businesses that share the same values as us,” added Hendekli.
