The #FeedTheFuture campaign has been created in partnership with organisations including School Food Matters, Bite Back 2030, Chefs in Schools and the Child Poverty Action Group.
In the face of the soaring cost of living, the Food Foundation has called on the Government to immediately raise the eligibility threshold for Free School Meals so that children living in poverty can benefit.
On the show Graham Norton asked Jamie: “As we head towards the Christmas holidays, what are you hoping for?”
Jamie replied: “We have a campaign at the moment where there is a gap between the free school lunch kids and the universal credit kids- it’s about 800,000 children and they are from very challenged families financially and they are very vulnerable.
“I have seen it and I have worked in this area for 17 years. It’s hard to take when you see it. We have recognised it for about four years. As we go into winter, I think that we have to fix it. No one wants to fix it because there are a lot of problems. We do believe it is really important.”
