Abstract
An Italian diplomatic official in Britain has offered official support for a proposed National Garlic Bread Day in the UK on April 19th – timed to take advantage this year of National Garlic Day (Apr 19) falling during National Bread Week (Apr 16-23).
The consul general in Birmingham, Giovanni Bruschetta, has stepped forward to back the suggestion.
He said: “Is a great idea. In our homeland we long ago combined these two wonderful ingredients and we’re now very happy to support any initiative that promotes this beautiful example of Italian cuisine.”
Such official encouragement is expected to persuade caterers throughout the industry to include the item on their menus on that day.
A spokesman for the newly-formed Joint Organisation of Kitchen Entrepreneurs, Edgar Bilcar, said: “This proposal offers a great business opportunity for caterers throughout the UK, and to get offical backing from the home of garlic bread just makes it that bit more special.”
