Abstract
Facility service provider ISS UK and Ireland has launched a new Corporate Responsibility (CR) strategy – ThinkForward@ISS – following the publication of its 2016 CR report.

Offering a “simpler and clearer CR approach,” the new strategy will be supported by the company’s executive board and aims to “facilitate customers’ purpose through people empowerment,” with a new focus on “sustainable service performance,” “enhancing customers’ purpose” and “people empowerment.”

As outlined in ThinkForward@ISS, the new strategy will involve:

  • Sustainable service performance - making efficient and responsible use of natural resources, including “procuring sustainable products and services,” “recycling and reducing ever more waste” and “reducing [its] carbon emissions.” This follows its relocation to Velocity in 2016 (ISS’s new head office), and a BREEAM certified ‘excellent’ building.
  • Enhancing customers’ purpose by “inspiring them to reimagine their workplaces and explore areas where they can work collaboratively on CR topics,” including: community engagement; safety, health and wellbeing; and technology. It will also build on the company’s partnership with The Prince’s Trust, which has enabled it to jointly organise several volunteering events with clients to support the employability skills of young people.
  • People empowerment – a commitment to “identify, develop and retain the best talent” through newfound ambitions on employability, diversity and inclusion, and learning and development.

Matthew Brabin, chief executive officer at ISS UK and Ireland, said: “ThinkForward@ISS represents an exciting new direction for CR within ISS. We felt 2016 was the right time to look at what really matters for our employees, customers, suppliers and wider stakeholders. It is a clearer and simpler CR approach for our business that we want everyone within ISS to feel part of and rally behind.

“We’ve called it ThinkForward@ISS to highlight that we are taking innovative approaches to addressing some of the megatrends facing society. Over the next 12 months, you will see us advancing on the CR ambitions that form part of ThinkForward@ISS, driven by our vision to become the world’s greatest service organisation.

People and culture director at ISS UK and Ireland, Stephanie Hamilton, added: “As our People and Culture policy states, at ISS we work hard to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees; based on the ISS Values and Leadership Principles – looking after both the physical and mental wellbeing of every ISS employee. Put simply, ensuring our people return safe and happy to their family at the end of each working day.

“I am delighted that our CR report highlights the work that we are undertaking to support our employees in delivering our key objectives, whilst also showcasing the many fantastic initiatives our own employees undertake to ensure that we have a positive impact on the communities and environments that we draw our resources from. I am proud of this report and look forward to seeing how our positive impact continues through our ThinkForward@ISS strategy for the future.”
