ISS Facility Services Healthcare replaces butter products in over 40 of its sites

24th Feb 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
Caterer ISS Facility Services Healthcare has made a commitment to replacing all of its butter products with Flora Original at its 42 healthcare catering sites.
Andy Jones, service development director for ISS Healthcare, said: "As a major healthy food initiative, we want to reduce the consumption of saturated fat by 615kg over the next 12 months. This equates to the weight of 10,603 chocolate bars! "From March 1, butter will no longer be used in any forms of cooking, baking, or spreading back of house. We chose Flora Original because it contains 78% less saturated fat than butter and is an easy way to reduce the amount of saturated fats in meal portions, without compromising on taste. "Our customers, chefs and patients can be assured that Flora works just as well as butter in cooking, not just on taste grounds, but for aroma and quality of ingredients as well." Clare Logan, marketing manager for Flora, added: "Caterers need to take responsibility and look for healthier alternatives to traditional ingredients high in saturated fat and salt. Butter has high levels of saturated fat, which is a bad fat that can increase blood cholesterol. We are delighted with ISS Healthcare's initiative to replace butter back of house with Flora Original, which is a genuine healthier alternative to butter." ISS Healthcare will continue to offer Flora and 10g butter portions in its retail establishments and on patient menus to ensure it's catering for all consumer choices.
